The Georgia General Assembly created the Georgia State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors in 1937 to ensure protection of life, health, property and promoting public welfare. The Board has the power to adopt rules, set standards for licensure, adopt mandatory standards of professional conduct and ethics, and investigate and discipline unauthorized, negligent, unethical, or incompetent practices. They review applications, administer examinations, license qualified applicants, and regulate the professional practice of licensees throughout the state. The Board consists of nine members appointed by the Governor for a term of five years: six professional engineers, two land surveyors, and a member appointed from the public at large.

On May 5, 2022, Governor Brian Kemp signed HB 476 creating a new state agency that will be named the Georgia Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors Board. You may view HB 476 in its entirety here.

Individual License Renewals begin October 15, 2025.

Senate Bill 125 was signed by Governor Brian Kemp on May 9, 2025. The Bill allows applicants for a Professional Engineers license to complete the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FE Exam) and the Principles and Practice of Engineering Exam (PE Exam) prior to gaining the requisite experience for licensure. Applicants no longer need to obtain approval from the Board to register for the exams with the NCEES. Applicants will not apply to the Board until they have completed both exams and obtained the requisite amount of experience for licensure based on their education.
