If you’re a Chartered Engineer (CEng) and International Professional Engineer (IntPE) registered in the United Kingdom, the U.S.–U.K. Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) creates a streamlined pathway for you to become a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Georgia. Here’s how to leverage this opportunity and complete your licensure through the Georgia Board’s online Licensing Portal.
Who’s Eligible?
- You must have both CEng and IntPE status and be listed on the U.K. International Register for Professional Engineers (IRPE).
- Not yet on the IRPE? Contact the Engineering Council UK (ECUK) at international@engc.org.uk for guidance.
Step-by-Step: Applying for a Georgia P.E. License via the MRA
- Create a MyNCEES Account
Register at ncees.org to begin the process. - Set Up Your NCEES Record
Establish your official NCEES Record at ncees.org/records. This record is essential for multistate licensure and will be transmitted to the Georgia board. - Complete the MRA-Specific Requirement:
- Education: If you hold IntPE status, email your transcripts and diplomas to transcripts@ncees.org.
- Work Experience: Provide references from CEng or P.E. professionals whenever possible.
- Exam & License Verification: FE and PE exam requirements are waived under the MRA. Instead, arrange for verification of your CEng and IntPE status through ECUK.
- Professional References: Submit five references, ideally from CEng or P.E. engineers. Detailed instructions and FAQs are available within the NCEES portal—look for section-specific help on each page.
- Purchase a Georgia Transmittal
Once your NCEES Record is complete, purchase a transmittal to the Georgia board. Your record will display a special MRA badge to alert the board of your eligibility. - Apply for Licensure via the Georgia Licensing Portal:
- After your NCEES Record has been transmitted to Georgia, you must submit a formal application through the Georgia Board’s online Licensing Portal: https://gapelsb.evokeplatform.com/app/licensingPortal
- Log in or create an account to begin your application.
- Complete all required fields, upload any requested documentation, and pay the applicable application fee.
- Reference your NCEES Record and indicate your eligibility under the Mutual Recognition Agreement in the application.
Important Reminders
- Transmittal ≠ Application: Sending your NCEES Record is not the same as applying for licensure. You must complete the Georgia application through the Board’s Licensing Portal.
- State-Specific Requirements: The Georgia Board may request additional documentation or information. Monitor your email and portal account for updates or requests from the Board.
- Fees: Expect both the NCEES transmittal fee and a separate Georgia state licensing fee.
